WOUND PROTECTION

There are two sources of advice about wound protection. The first source is a veterinary surgeon and the second source is an online testimonial. Your personal choice depends on your personal risk perception. Would nine glowing testimonials about inflatable collars influence your choice? What if the 10th testimonial described a dog who chewed their wound and needed a second operation?

  • THE PEANUT BUTTER TEST

The peanut butter test is a trial run. Carers test several wound protection options 2-3 weeks before surgery. Apply a favourite treat to the future surgical site. If your dog reaches the treat, don’t use that collar.

  • WOUND PROTECTION COVERS

This high quality cover is made by Swedish company Scandi Orthopedics. Sleeves are great, but they don’t suit all dogs. Tap here to watch a video about wound wound protection options for various personality types.
